Huertos Familiares Comunitarios

It is a difficult time for many in our global community and San Marcos La Laguna, but more so for indigenous families who do not have savings or income to survive this global economic crisis caused by the Covid-19. It is time we show our appreciation for the indigenous community and give back to the people who have welcomed us to their beautiful paradise.

Our goal is to provide staple foods, rice, corn, beans, eggs, sugar and salt to as many local families as possible. Initially we will coordinate delivery of these goods to the elderly, single mothers and those without employment. As more funds are raised we will be able to increase our outreach as well as provide medicine to those in need.

The suspension of local business, employment, tourism and transportation is especially felt in an isolated village like San Marcos where families live on a more day to day basis with few reserves to sustain their households. Many homes have zero refrigeration. Currently, access to food staples are increasingly difficult. It is equally as important to everyone’s health that through this time, all people in our shared community have essential access to basic resources.

We are honored to partner with the local expat community, indigenous community, tourists from all over the world....everyone who has been touched by the magic of San Marcos. In addition, we are working closely with leaders in the indigenous community, The Catholic Church, the Municipality, Konojel and collaboration of Evangelical Churches, Open Institute and several local businesses to raise these much needed funds.

Key organizations, The Catholic Church, Konojel and the Municipality are providing a census so that we can determine which families are in the most need at this time. San Marcos' very own tuk tuk drivers are also working with us to deliver these goods in the safest way possible, limiting exposure of indigenous persons to tourist who may carry the virus or other health threatening concerns.

We are humbled and overwhelmed with the support from each of you.

Es un momento difícil para muchos en nuestra comunidad global y San Marcos La Laguna, pero más aún para las familias indígenas que no tienen ahorros o ingresos para sobrevivir a esta crisis económica global causada por Covid-19. Es hora de que demostremos nuestro aprecio por la comunidad indígena y devolvamos a las personas que nos han recibido en su hermoso paraíso.

Nuestro objetivo es proporcionar alimentos básicos, arroz, maíz, frijoles, huevos, azúcar y sal a tantas familias locales como sea posible. Inicialmente coordinaremos la entrega de estos productos a los ancianos, madres solteras y personas sin empleo. A medida que se recauden más fondos, podremos aumentar nuestro alcance y proporcionar medicamentos a los necesitados.

La suspensión de los negocios locales, el empleo, el turismo y el transporte se siente especialmente en una aldea aislada como San Marcos, donde las familias viven más día a día con pocas reservas para mantener a sus hogares. Muchas casas tienen cero refrigeración. Actualmente, el acceso a alimentos básicos es cada vez más difícil. Es igualmente importante para la salud de todos que a través de este tiempo, todas las personas en nuestra comunidad compartida tengan acceso esencial a recursos básicos.

Tenemos el honor de asociarnos con la comunidad local de expatriados, la comunidad indígena, los turistas de todo el mundo ... todos los que han sido tocados por la magia de San Marcos. Además, estamos trabajando estrechamente con líderes de la comunidad indígena, la Iglesia Católica, el Municipio, Konojel y la colaboración de Iglesias Evangélicas, Open Institute y varias empresas locales para recaudar estos fondos tan necesarios.

Las organizaciones clave, la Iglesia Católica, Konojel y el Municipio están proporcionando un censo para que podamos determinar qué familias son las más necesitadas en este momento. Los propios conductores de tuk tuk de San Marcos también están trabajando con nosotros para entregar estos productos de la manera más segura posible, limitando la exposición de las personas indígenas a los turistas que pueden portar el virus u otras preocupaciones que amenazan la salud.

Viele Millionen Menschen unserer globalen Gemeinschaft befinden sich in einer sehr schwierigen Situation. Die Auswirkungen der globalen Krise spürten die indigenen Familien in unserem Dorf San Marcos La Laguna in Guatemala schon nach wenigen Tagen. Sie haben keine Ersparnisse und nun auch kein Einkommen mehr. Wir möchten die in Not geratenen Menschen unterstützen und uns dankbar zeigen bei den Indigenen, die ihr wunderschönes Zuhause mit uns über viele Jahre so selbstverständlich geteilt haben. Unser Ziel ist es Grundnahrungsmittel (Reis, Mais, Bohnen, Eier, Zucker, Salz etc.) für so viele lokale Familien bereit zu stellen wie möglich. Vorrang haben die ältere Bevölkerung, alleinerziehende Mütter und die Familien ohne jegliches Einkommen. Wenn mehr Spenden eingehen, können wir sowohl unsere Reichweite erhöhen als auch die medizinische Versorgung für unser Dorf sicher stellen. Das Stilllegen der lokalen Wirtschaft, das Aussetzen von Beschäftigungsverhältnissen, des Tourismus und des Transportwesens ist in einem abgelegenen Dorf wie San Marcos besonders zu spüren. Viele unserer Mitbürger haben von einem Tag auf den anderen keine Möglichkeit mehr ihre Kinder ausreichend zu ernähren. Viele Haushalte haben weder einen Kühlschrank noch sauberes Trinkwasser. Der Zugang zu Grundnahrungsmitteln wird zunehmend schwieriger. Es ist außerordentlich wichtig, dass nun die Gesundheit aller Menschen im Mittelpunkt steht. Jeder Mensch sollte die Möglichkeit besitzen sich und seine Familie mit den wesentlichen Dingen in Würde zu versorgen. Es ist uns eine große Ehre mit der hiesigen Auswanderer-Gemeinschaft, der indigenen Gemeinschaft und mit den Touristen aus der ganzen Welt zusammenzuarbeiten. Darüber hinaus arbeiten wir eng mit den Führern der indigenen Gemeinschaft, der katholischen Kirche, der Gemeinde (Bürgermeister), Konojel (örtliches NGO), ein Zusammenschluss von evangelischen Kirchen und verschiedensten lokale Unternehmen zusammen.
